Panic attacks are one of the most frequently experienced disorders in the world. It is estimated that 4 or 5 out of a hundred people are severely affected by it, in one way or another. Because of panic attacks, a casual mood can turn into an eye-popping, jittery, can’t sit-still-on-the-chair mood, like what a husband feels when he’s eagerly waiting for his wife to give birth to their child.
A “little” anxiety is not a bad thing. It helps protect you from harm or potential danger, real or imagined, like other emotions. Let me explain.
Human beings are the most fascinating and intriguing creatures on earth. The biggest reason why we dominate the animal kingdom is because of the way the human brain functions. One of the most distinctive features of the human being is the ability to have feelings. Although we do not necessarily conclude that animals do not have feelings, as evidenced through research on the way they react to certain situations, human feelings have the depth and significance that go far beyond what animals can attain.
For feelings that deliver us good, we expound ways to improve it further. For feelings that deliver us harm and pain, we also try to minimize it or get away from it as much as we can. Anxiety is no exception. There is no need to totally eradicate harmful feelings because at least some of them are not 100% harmful. In small ways they also do us good. The idea is to control and not be controlled. Let us take fear as an example
Fear, as you know, is one of the most infamous feelings we have as human beings. It is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) deterrents to our success. Yet in spite of the negative perception we may have about fear, it also has its little good side. Fear prevents us from getting hurt, both physically and emotionally. The “little” fear inherent within us is actually good for us. We need that “little” amount of fear. It prevents us from getting too aggressive.
The same is true with panic. A “little” panic can serve as a form of defense. But being engulfed with excessive panic may hinder you from performing your normal activities and may deter you to take action especially on not-so-common activities.
However, if you have only one option to facing a panic attack, like it or not you have to find the right approach to contain such attack and suppress this discomforting feeling.
Panic attacks are actually a product of the mind, an imagination of a perceived threat or danger that can be controlled. In reality, such danger does not exist. Even the worst scenario that you can perceive under these circumstances are not life threatening.
Life is too short to be preoccupied with anxieties that hinder your growth. So learn to live with, its not so bad after all.

Though commonly mistaken as a condition of the heart, heartburn is in fact a digestive problem. Manifested by discomfort around the chest and upper back area, heartburn can occur in varying degrees. Heartburn’s symptoms may range from a mild irritation to severe pain. On average, heartburn is an incidental occurrence for most people, however, there are those who suffer from chronic heartburn.
What causes heartburn? It is normally associated with improper food intake or with something that does not agree with one’s body. Technically though, what causes heartburn is the reflux of gastric acid up to the esophagus. This irritates the lining and causes the pain. It has been pinpointed that a dysfunctional lower esophageal sphincter (LES) muscle contributes largely to heartburn.
Diet and lifestyle have been pinpointed as some factors which may cause the LES to weaken. Food that is spicy and acidic contributes to heartburn. More so, other habits that may encourage heartburn are smoking and drinking alcohol. Posture is another factor to be considered. Improper posture may cause the weakening of the LES.
If you are suffering from occasional heartburn, your healthcare provider will simply treat you with the common heartburn treatment. Antacids such as Maalox and Mylanta are usually prescribed as medication like this will neutralize the acidity within your stomach. In some cases, other medication will be prescribed to prevent recurrence of the problem.
For those who suffer from chronic heartburn, however, further tests such as an endoscopy will probably be conducted. This is done to further understand and analyze the cause of the chronic heartburn. This will also reveal if there are any other complications connected to the condition.
So how do you avoid getting heartburn? Watch for the foods that seem to trigger a heartburn attack. Different people have different “trigger foods”. If you notice that a certain food gives you heartburn, then try to avoid it. In general, spicy food should be taken in moderation. Too much alcohol and smoking can also trigger heartburn so it would be good to ease up on these activities. Also, try to maintain proper posture when walking, sitting, or lying down.

Attention Deficit Disorder is a chronic neurological disorder, which is predominantly diagnosed in children. Statistics estimates that 2-5 % of the population is affected by ADD, considering the rare possibility for cases of Adult ADD. ADD is one of the disturbing pediatric disorders in the United States, since 5 million are affected by this disorder. Attention deficit disorder is the old name of the disease with characteristic symptoms of hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity, which is later renamed as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD HD). The disorder is classified into three distinct subtypes, ADHD predominantly combined type, ADHD predominantly inattentive type and ADHD predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type, on the basis of the pronounced characteristic symptom.
Children with ADD show distractibility, forgetfulness, impulse control, and disorganization. It is often misdiagnosed as any learning disability disease, however, pervasive symptoms for six months must be suspected. Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders describe particular symptoms for the children belonging to each type of ADD. The inattentive type shows the symptom such as careless mistakes due to inattention, trouble in playing games that require concentration, failure to follow instructions, avoiding school projects and seminars, forgetfulness, distractibility and recurring losses. The hyperactivity-impulsive type shows symptoms such as restlessness, difficulty in staying seated, wanting to run and climb all the time, answering before a question has been completed, and excessive speech. The combined type will exhibit both types of symptoms.
Usually, children with ADD will have certain learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, low thyroid, and tendency to violate rules and regulations. It is quite interesting that the features of gifted children are often misinterpreted as symptoms of ADD. In adults, ADD is characteristic with symptoms such as low esteem, procrastination, boredom, anxiety, depression, mood swings, relationship problems, forgetfulness, restlessness, sleep problems, and addiction.
Treatments for ADD are not effective to provide a complete cure, to date, since the exact cause of the disease is not identified. The only known fact is that the disease is brought on because of some sort of neurological problem. It is suspected that impairment to the neurotransmitters can be the possible cause. Physicians prescribe several medications, which help the ADD patients to control their symptoms effectively. The simulative medications include methylphenidate, dextroamphetamine, and benzphetamine. The brand names such as Ritalin and Adderall are some of the widely accepted drugs for ADD treatment. The psychotherapies such as behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, relaxation therapy and neurofeedback are suggested to improve the social behavior of ADD patients. In addition, nutritional supplements such as zinc, amino acids, and fatty acids such as Omega 3, are recommended to enhance the condition of ADD patients.
